21 May Psalms & Songs – May 21, 2020
“Psalm 46” by Shane & Shane
“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
“Father, You are my refuge and strength. You have proved that you are present in my trouble. This presence that You constantly give me takes away fear that I have. Even when all else appears to be crashing around me and this world is falling apart, You are with me. It’s amazing when I reflect on the fact that the same God that will unleash judgment is the same God that saves me and is my shelter.
Jesus, You will make indeed make all things new. You will restore and bless everything one day. I will be in Your midst and dwell among You. Oh that I long for that day! In the meantime, I pray that I lean on You always as my main help. In a time like now with a pandemic, nations are most definitely “raging” and kingdoms and economies are falling, and throughout this time, I pray that we would reflect on Your works. You can melt the earth with just words. You uphold all things and control all things. If people would just stop for a second an observe what’s really happening, they would see Your mighty hand behind it all.
Holy Spirit, I have trouble being still. But I know that’s what You call me to do. Being still and knowing God go hand in hand. I want to control everything and I worry a lot. But again, what is there to control when You are behind everything? What is there to worry about when You are my refuge? You have saved me and I am right with You! What peace! What joy! So while I wait and long for the day of Your coming, I will exalt Your name among the nations, I will take the Gospel to others and desire for them to join me in praising Your name! For You are with me, and You are my fortress.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
