“Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone)” by People & Songs
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
“Father, You are my shepherd. You guide me, You teach me – You have saved me. This is why You are my shepherd. In You, I’ve tasted and seen that You are good and because of that, there is nothing else that compares. When I reflect on You being mine and me being yours, I lose desires for all else. You make me lie down in green pastures and lead me beside waters of rest – You restore me! Lord, help me remember that You lead me in paths of righteousness for YOUR names’ sake! This reminds me that the Bible isn’t about me, it’s all about you.
Holy Spirit, I have nothing to fear knowing that you are beside me and You are inside of me, guiding me! Again, You are my shepherd! Knowing this reality means I don’t have to fear, because you are not just guiding me, you’re protecting me. This, Holy Spirit, brings me an enormous amount of comfort. What joy it is knowing that I am not alone.
Jesus, even though I experience persecution here on this earth from time to time, I know you are preparing a place for me. In the meantime, You are purifying and sanctifying me while I am on earth. The fact that I am being molded day after day into Your imagine brings me more joy than I could ever explain. Not only will your goodness continue in my life, but so will Your mercy. These two attributes go hand in hand. You are good because of Your mercy. Your mercy is good. I know this because I fall and I sin every day. What I need is your mercy. You are so good, Jesus. I look forward to the day where I am dwelling with You. However, right now, I am justified and redeemed by You because You have saved me and I have believed in You. I am made new. Send me, Lord, to tell others of the shepherd You are to me. And let me pray for them to receive You as shepherd as well.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
